October 2024 Fishing Report

Inshore, nearshore, and offshore conditions around the Tampa Bay area in October 2024.

Inshore, nearshore, and offshore conditions around the Tampa Bay area.

    • Snook are biting well, especially at night and early morning around the passes. After sunrise, they can be targeted on beaches and flats using live bait like greenbacks and shrimp. Night fishing with soft plastics is effective near the passes.
    • Redfish are found around mangrove shorelines, oyster bars, and flats. Morning hours and higher tides are best for targeting them. They are especially active near mullet schools and birds.
    • Trout are active around deeper flats, potholes, and edges, with soft plastics, white bait, and shrimp being productive. Dock lights at night help improve success, particularly with the upcoming new moon.
    • Mangrove Snapper are active inshore, especially near structures. Live shrimp and cut threadfins work well with light tackle.

    Nearshore:

    • Hogfish are putting on weight, though the bite hasn’t fully peaked yet.
    • Mackerel action is improving, with a better kingfish bite expected as water temperatures drop later in October.

    Offshore:

    • Amberjack season is ongoing until the end of October, with other species like triggerfish, snapper, and porgies providing a lot of action.
